LOUIS JAMES BOLAND Jr.

Louis James Boland, Jr. "Louie" passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023 after a courageous four-year battle with multiple illnesses. Despite the major challenges, Louie was a happy, energetic and kind person to all until the moment of his passing. Louie is survived by his beloved and devoted sister, Eileen, and five brothers Sean (Theresa), James, John (Ann Marie), Kevin and Michael (Pam), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Louie was the second oldest of eight children born to Louis, Sr. and Maureen Boland. His parents and older sister, Colleen, predeceased him. Louie was born at the Bethesda Naval Hospital on November 24, 1951 and lived in North Bethesda, Maryland for the last 33 years.

Louie was the Executive Vice President of Boland, the leading commercial HVAC systems, services and building energy solutions provider in the Washington, DC metro area. Louie remained in that capacity for many years and helped build one of the most innovative and customer-friendly organizations in the country. His true calling in his business career was building lifetime friendships with customers, suppliers and industry associates. It was always important to Louie to give back to the Company and industry he loved. He served as the President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington and various other leading industry organizations which helped make life better for all those working "inside." Boland's original motto: "We are not comfortable until you are" was a favorite of Lou, Sr. and Lou, Jr.

Lou was devoted to all things Irish and to the Catholic Church. He served as the President of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and as a Knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. He was a long-time member of the Board of the Flax Trust and Don Bosco Christo Rey High School. He also was a strong supporter of Catholic Charities and Spring Hill College, from which he graduated in 1974. Louie also attended Mater Dei School and Woodward High School.

The most important aspect of Louie's life was his family and friends. Growing up in a fiercely competitive, and male-dominated family, Lou was a kind, loving son, brother, uncle and friend to all. He had an innate ability to find the good part of every soul he met and his memory for names, places and experiences was remarkable. Although he was a life-long bachelor, Louie came close to walking the church aisle with some wonderful women, but it was impossible for Lou to settle down with just one person when so many devoted and life-long friends were vying for his attention and love.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated privately with family. A celebration of a well-lived and happy life will follow in a couple of weeks assuming the family can find a venue large enough to accommodate Lou's numerous friends and family. Stay tuned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities D.C., 924 G Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20001 in honor of Louis J. Boland, Jr.

"Out of the blue", Lou gave me a book he'd just read and thought I would enjoy reading it. What a nice gesture from a great guy.

I only learned recently of Louie's passing and I am so sad to learn this. Louie was such a good friend whenever I visited Boland Trane. He was a true gentleman just like his father, Lou Sr. I always felt that when I left home to visit Boland Trane, I actually felt like I was going home! And I will never forget taking Louie up to the National Eagle Center at Wabasha, Minnesota, when he was visiting at Trane and Multistack. Visiting Boland Trane and becoming friends with Louie, Jimmy, Lou Sr., and everyone at Boland Trane was a highlight of my 35 years at Trane! Rest in peace, Louie.

Lou was a great friend who helped me greatly in my career. He played handball with us at Bolling Air Base when I worked at Cafritz, and assisted with sales and service for the Oliver Carr Company in its great expansion during the 1980's and 1990's. Whenever we needed help we could always count on Boland Trane, and Lou was always avaliable. God Bless the family and friends.

I just saw Lou´s obituary, very sad. He will be missed.

Lou was my landlord at his townhouse in Montgomery Village, me fresh out of school and finding my feet in 1978. He rented to 2 of us single guys. Great times. I followed Lou´s lead and bought my own townhouse and rented rooms to other single guys, then they did the same! Lou was always upbeat.
Best wishes to all the Bolands. Will be there Dec. 8

The news of Lou's passing was received with initial shock and disbelief and then sorrow, prayers and remembrances. As a dermatologist of 42 years and recently retired in December 2022, I had the honor of having Lou as a patient for over 25 years. Lou and his "band of brothers" who were also in my practice, recently took me out for a wonderful retirement dinner party and I was treated royally as a VIP with much fun, humor and good joking about past visits. Well, Lou was my VIP patient! I would look forward to his visits. He was always affable with a quick sense of humor, and we always worked together as a real team. He was a joy to be around. Even in times of trial and stress, he was always smiling and upbeat -- for him the glass was always half-full, and that spirit was always contagious to all around him including me, his physician. He will be greatly missed. Hopefully he will pray for us as we pray for him. Daniel Dellatorre MD

Growing up in suburban Washington in an equally large Catholic family, it made clear sense to know every Boland and swap childhood stories people would never believe and is why many of the Kane are so close to many of the Boland´s. Louie was a great story teller and I always enjoyed the few times we met and laugh about Big Families inner sibling battles and fights. We always said we´d never trade it for anything in the world as the stories were fond memorable of our upbringing. Only brothers can get away with such verbal zabbings like the famed story of Lou drawing the Lobster for the Annual Boland Trane company party. So many successful siblings including Lou in their in their respective careers showed their Naval Academy graduate Father and loving care of their Mother at the helm while the Father was committed to building a notable local business must have done so many things right raising Lou for he had more friends than many others on this planet. Many people are saddened in the last 24 hours from hearing this news and I can´t think of anyone who ever said a critical word when Lou´s name would pop up.Louis Boland² will truly missed.

Lou (never Louie) and I met 40 years ago at one of our many attended Mechanical Contractor meetings when he was a recent college graduate. I knew Lou's Dad through business and his Mom at an evening course she attended with me. I can still see Lou now holding a beer in his hand wrapped first with a napkin. Lou was always so very friendly with me. In fact, I have a book he lent (?) to me that he thoroughly enjoyed entitled, "The Richest Man in the World" all about DC's Jerry Wolman. I need to return it to the Boland family. Rest in Peace beautiful man.
