LOUIS GLEKAS Obituary


Dr. Louis John Glekas  
Louis John Glekas, 81, of Falls Church, VA, died on September 16, 2015. Dr. Glekas was born in Washington, DC, to Alexandra Krambovitis Glekas and her husband John Louis Glekas, Greek immigrants from Sparta. He graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School in 1952 with honors, and went on to graduate from Georgetown College in 1956 and from the Georgetown School of Dentistry in 1960, also with honors. Dr. Glekas was a retired Lieutenant with the U.S. Navy, having served as a dental officer in Okinawa from 1960-1963, and afterwards in the Naval Reserves. Dr. Glekas was a life-long member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, where he served as president of the parish council, and of the Adelphia Post of the D.C. American Legion, where he served as commander and also as commander of the D.C. Department. He was a dentist in Falls Church for 40 years. Dr. Glekas is lovingly survived by his daughters Alicia Glekas Everett and Elena Glekas Pernitz, son-in-law Jacques Pernitz, grandson Peter Everett, sister Angelina Glekas Wright, nieces Deborah Wright Blanch and Teresa Wright Austin (Joseph), nephews John Wright (Christie) and Robert Wright (Jeannine), his cousins Peter Glekas, Nick Glekas and Louis Glekas, the Wright and Glekas families, his former wife Barbara Alafoginis, and the Alafoginis family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at St. Sophia Cathedral, 36th St. and Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC, on Monday, September 21 at 10 a.m.; funeral to follow at 11 a.m. Interment private. Memorial donations may be made to St. Sophia Cathedral.

Saddened to read of your loss. Lou and I were classmates and friends at Coolidge High School. He was greatly loved and admired by all of his school mates, and was elected President of our graduation class. A really classy guy who will be missed by all of us still around.

Reading this Obituary brings back fond memories. I was raised in the same neighborhood as Louis, Shepherd Park,in Washington, DC. My family and I were frequent customers of The Shepherd Park Restaurant owned and operated by John and George Glekas. My condolences to the family.
