Louise Edelman Sagalyn
Louise Edelman Sagalyn died on August 13, 2022. She was born on April 24, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York. She received her BA from Vassar College in Liberal Arts and her law degree from George Washington University Law School. Louise was a lawyer and consultant on public policy issues for private industry and the Federal government where she focused her work on children at risk.
She was an innovative business entrepreneur, co-founding a small chain of antique and gift stores called Country Living where she pioneered combining a store with a restaurant. She served as Chairman and CEO of Walk, Inc. which later became the Walkways Center, promoting the joy and health benefits of walking. She served as the vice president of Security Planning Corporation, a consulting firm that advised the government and private companies on crime prevention and security.
Louise had a long history of community service. She founded a family foundation which funds programs that support the social and emotional well being of children and young adults. She also served on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations over the years including the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, WETA, and Friends of the Juvenile Court.
In her later life she was an artist and created portriats that addressed current social, cultural, and political issues.
She is survived by three children: Laurie London Sagalyn, Rita London Sagalyn, and Lisbeth Sagalyn Stone; three grandchildren: Benjamin Henry Stone, Lucy Morgan Stone and Emma Louise Schurink; as well as her great- grandson Ruben Arnold Lopez-Stone.

The Art Links program provides underserved DC schools with high-quality arts experiences and resources.
