Marcos Bronfman

Marcos Bronfman passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025 after an arduous battle with aggressive cancer. He was a devoted friend, a generous and doting uncle and cousin, and a loyal brother and son. His love of golf and all things University of Maryland athletics were central to the ways he spent his time and built friendships. Everyone who knew him will remember a sly and well-timed sense of humor, a sharp intellect, an ability to effectively organize people and events, and dozens of very colorful golf pants.
Marcos was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1960 and grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. He attended Walt Whitman High School and the University of Maryland and received an MBA from George Washington University. He enjoyed a long career in finance and consulting, with early stints in Honduras and New Jersey, ultimately making a home in Washington, DC. Marcos spent many years working at Sallie Mae and then Navient. After retirement he remained active in the business world through a variety of ventures.
He dedicated much of his time and energy giving back to the various communities he was part of including: University of Maryland Alumni Association and Terrapin Club of which he was past president; George Washington University Alumni Association and Kids Play USA. He moved in and generated far-reaching networks, with a singular capacity to foster meaningful connections between people and organizations. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his father José (Laura); his sisters Sandra and Nuria (Glenn); his niece and nephews Max, Henry, Maia and Zach, his beloved family in Argentina, and many close friends. His sisters would like to thank all his friends who supported Marc on his journey. A celebration of life will be held on Friday November 21, 4 to 6 p.m. at the Maryland Club, 8500 Paint Branch Road, (2nd floor Xfinity Building), Parking Lot 4 B.
