Margaret Snyder Obituary

Margaret Lucille Snyder, aged 87, passed away on August 13, 2025. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, and friend who will be missed by everyone.

She was born on December 13, 1937, in Washington, DC to the late Andrew and Eleanor (Hudlow) Dorr. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Jean Dorr.

Margaret was a life-long resident of the District of Columbia! She loved her home, her neighborhood, and her neighbors. She enjoyed learning and sharing the rich history of our Nation's Capital!

She attended St. Augustine Elementary School, then continued to Mackin High School where she excelled at basketball and graduated with awards for typing and bookkeeping.

Margaret enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. Each year she visited the local nursery with her neighbor to select flowers for her potted garden. Her recipes were party favorites, and after her father's passing, she kept alive the tradition of baking Christmas cookies for family and friends.

She also enjoyed traveling to her second favorite place, Cape May! She often vacationed there with her daughter and other members of her family. She loved touring the Victorian homes, staying at different Bed & Breakfasts, and joining any tour to further immerse herself in its rich history.

Margaret loved working. She started working as a secretary for the Council of Economic Advisors at the White House in 1955, when she was just seventeen years old. Over the next four decades she met and worked for nine U.S. Presidents, a major source of pride and achievement. Margaret parlayed her experience for her next career with Maximus where she eventually rose to the position of QA Senior Manager for Proposal Operations. She reluctantly retired shortly after her 80th birthday.

Her life's work was with one purpose, to provide for her children—Andrew (Lisa) Dize of Glen Burnie, MD; Mary Welch of Gettysburg, PA; and Anthony (Maggie) Snyder of Round Rock, TX. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on October 6, 2025, at 1 p.m., followed by remembrances and fellowship until 4 p.m. at Devol Funeral Home, 2222 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20007.

Valet parking will be available for visitors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following Johns Hopkins medical specialties; Pulmonary Hypertension, Scleroderma, or Colorectal Cancer.

Yesterday

So sorry to hear about Margaret's passing. When I started my job at Maximus, Margaret was the one who trained me on the templates and other aspects of the job. I excelled at my job because of her guidance. Margaret was always nice, kind and treated everyone with the utmost respect. She will be missed by all who knew her.
