MARGUERITE DeSTACY Obituary
DeSTACY MARGUERITE ANDREWS DeSTACY On June 19, 2012, Marguerite Andrews DeStacy (Mama) died peacefully at Capital Caring Hospice in Arlington, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 15, 1914 in Leary, Georgia and as a teenager and young woman spent summers in New York City with her Aunt. She fell in love with New York and with Charles DeStacy and never returned to Georgia. Charles and Marguerite settled in Brooklyn, New York and had two children Patricia de Stacy Harrison and William DeStacy. Marguerite was a beautiful woman who had a great sense of style and early in her career worked for Lord & Taylor in New York City where she developed a client list of social and media notables of the 1950's. Marguerite was adventurous and brave and when her Uncle invited her to tour the newly built Washington Bridge she climbed to the top-in heels. Marguerite and Charles left New York to join their children and grandchildren in Arlington, Virginia where she helped to open Lord & Taylor in Northern Virginia. When Charles was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease she took care of him at home and developed devices to help lift and move him. When he died, she wanted to put the expertise she had attained on behalf of others and she began to care for the aged and infirm. Her compassion on behalf of others is just one reason why at the age of 97 she had friends of all ages and backgrounds. While she was caring for our father and working at Lord & Taylor she created a business making rag dolls. Her business card read "Mama's Dolls-Stuffed with Love." She was also the business manager for real estate properties. She believed that both work and good works were important and she never stopped working but her true love and dedication was to her family. The highlight of her week was when her children and grandchildren gathered every Sunday at her house for pasta. She was part of every family vacation, traveled with her family worldwide but her favorite trip was to Capri where we all tooled around in a 1960's convertible oldsmobile singing Italian songs. She was our guiding star, our Braveheart and we will keep her in our hearts forever. Patricia and Bruce Harrison, Bill and Alice DeStacy.
