I still think of you every day, bumblebee, and so wish you were here to see what an amazing little man Erik is becoming. He made the honor roll in the last three semesters of 6th grade, just started Boy Scouts and camping, plays trumpet in the school band, and makes his own pancakes in the morning.

I see you reflected in his face, his amazing sense of humor, and his love of the movies. I talk about you often so that you'll be present in his life in the only way I know how. I still thank you every day for having shared everything -- good times and bad -- with me, without condition, and with a fierce loyalty that transcends even the barrier of death. Can you hear me when my inner voice talks to you? Then you'll know that I have always loved you and I always will.

Jose and Miriam will be coming from Spain in a few days. We'll miss you and will be thinking about you. We'll be reminiscing about the wonderful moments we had with you, cut short for reasons we won't fully understand until we ourselves join you. Hasta pronto, abejoritto.

Karl and Erik,

Carol and I were so saddened with Mariangeles' passing. With heavy hearts we came to say goodbye and spend some time with you and Erik to provide some small measure of solace at an incredibly difficult time for your family. I spent some time talking with your parents and Erik, and remember admiring their strength and composure, especially Erik. And you, with that soulful, heartfelt eulogy .

I remember the last time we were all together; I believe it was a Bar-B-Q place in Herndon, VA and as always was the case with Mariangeles, her infectious laughter filled the air.

If you find yourselves in our neck of the woods when you get back to the states please come see us.

To Mr. Wagner and his son,
This is Patricia, Phil Braga's assistant. Phil came over to tell the tragic news of Mariangeles. He is just as surprised as I am and sad as well.
Tears rolled down my eyes. I still remember vividly how beautiful she was and your son..I dont know if you remember but I had him playing in my cubicle and he told me when he grew up I was going to be his wife! I never forgot!! That has been the third marriage proposal I received from someone so young! I hope you and your son are doing okay in Cairo.
On behal of Phillip Braga and myself we are deeply sorry for your loss.
Sincerely, Patricia Blanco.

To our friend Karl,

When we heard how God provided you and Mariangeles to be our daughter and son-in-law's first friends in Mexico and the many ways you showed kindness to them filled our hearts to overflowing. Thank you, thank you, thank you Karl. Perhaps you don't remember, but you, Karl, were one of the first folks we met in Mexico City when we visited them. There are so many memories I still treasure from that evening. Your precious wife was not there as she was fighting those environmental allergies. The 'particulates' (a new word for my vocabulary) in the Mexico City air were at a higher than normal level that day. It wasn't until later that we met her and have loved her dearly ever since. When baby Erik was born, we rejoiced with you both and were so thrilled that God had blessed your marriage with this beautiful son. And every time we were with you all, we loved you even more. Every time Mariangeles came to our home, she shared her love of beauty as she would transform one of our rooms with just a touch, and / or rearrange a piece of furniture to make that room more inviting to us and for our guests. We loved her visits. Our hearts are heavy now as we together face the reality of eternity. We often think life is so full of distractions that we neglect some of the most important things we all need to consider. Our prayer is that in your quiet moments, you will remember that the Lord Jesus Christ told us to "let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going." Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:1-6

We will continue to keep you in our prayers as we ask that the God of peace will surround both you and Erik with His love.

Dear Karl and Erik,
We will miss her easy smile and positive energy whenever we were together. I will especially miss her laugher and wit and how she made me feel special. She was a good listener and I know a person with all those qualities is hard to find. So, I miss her even more. We send up prayers of comfort for you and courage to get through these difficult and dark days. Abigail sends "a great big hug" to Erik. Know that we are here for you. Deborah, Jim and Abigail

Dear Karl and Erik,
We can't believe someone so alive can possibly be gone. It's been a long time since you and Mariangeles were my sponsors in Havana, but I've never forgotten how wonderful you both were and what a joy it was to be around Mariangeles. She was a great friend to everyone and a true adventurer in life. We can't imagine what you're going through, but please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. No matter what continent you were on, you really knew how to light up a room ... and to decorate a room! Like I said to you last year -- people just loved being around you. The world will be a duller place now, that's for sure. Wish you could have spent more time with us, to make us laugh a little longer.....
