MARK JACOBSEN Obituary

MARK JACOBSEN (Age 63)
A longtime resident of Arlington, VA died October 21, 2013. Mark loved acquiring knowledge and loved sharing it with others even more. A natural teacher, he was professor of military history for 21 years at the Marine Corps University Command and Staff College in Quantico. Always curious to learn about other cultures, he particularly enjoyed working with students from allied nations around the world. Mark was an exceptionally generous man. Books were a passion with him. He graduated from Reed College and earned his Ph.D. at the University of California, Irvine. He lived almost 50 years after his diagnosis with type I diabetes, but died of its cardiac complications. His nephews, Alexander of Washington, DC and Scott and Benjamin of Albuquerque, NM, were a great joy in his life. He is also survived by his three brothers, James of Tijeras, NM, Joel and wife, Carla Beauchamp of Albuquerque and Peter of Sacramento, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn C. and Eloise Tittle Jacobsen. Arrangements have been entrusted to Advent Funeral & Cremation Services of Falls Church. A private service in Albuquerque is planned.

I worked with Dr. Jacobsen for 14 years at Marine Corps University. He was a humorous and thoughtful professor. My thoughts and prayers got out to his family.
