Martin Farber Obituary

Martin Gerald "Marty" Farber, known to friends and family simply as Marty, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025. Born in Washington, DC, he lived most of his life in Richmond, Virginia, in the Fan District, where he made a quiet but lasting impact on everyone who knew him and the community.
He was a cherished uncle to his three nieces, Heather, Becca, and Elle, and a beloved great-uncle to his great nephews and nieces, Adyn, Drake, Avianna, Hadlynn, Luella, and Jagger, who all adored him. After the loss of his younger brother Rick in 2015, Marty stepped up in a profound way for his nieces, offering comfort, guidance, and unwavering support during some of their hardest moments, filling a void with love only he could give. He offered advice with humor and warmth, made others laugh at the most unexpected moments, and reminded everyone who knew him to slow down and appreciate life's quiet joys.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Class of 1964, Marty went on to earn his master's degree in sociology from Howard University in 1970. His lifelong commitment to fairness, public service, and protecting the powerless guided his career. For more than thirty years, he served at the Division of Legislative Services drafting legislation and providing counsel to the Virginia General Assembly's House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee and the Senate Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources Committee. Marty's dedication, sharp mind, and integrity earned him deep respect from legislators, lobbyists, and colleagues across generations. While his contributions to the Commonwealth were significant, those closest to him knew that his heart was just as extraordinary as his intellect.
Marty's presence will be deeply missed, but his wisdom, laughter, and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friend
A graveside service will be held at King David Memorial Gardens (7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA 22042) on Monday, November 24, at 11 a.m.
