MARY WOODSON TYLER FARUKI

Mary Woodson Tyler Faruki left this world on Friday, May 27, 2022 in Fairfax, Virginia at the age of 85. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.



Mary was born to George and Hazel Tyler on December 6, 1936, in Roanoke, Virginia. "Mary Woo" as she was known to her family, spent her early years in Blacksburg and Arlington, Virginia and was a lifelong Christian Methodist. Mary was a proud graduate of Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, VA in 1955 and the College of William & Mary in 1959. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, Mary worked for the Secretary of the Navy in Washington, DC. Mary married John S. Faruki on October 7, 1961 and spent many wonderful years accompanying her husband to postings in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Bangkok.



Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John, who died on December 25, 1991. She is survived by her two children, Jimmy Faruki of Alexandria, VA, and Sarah Faruki Thomas of Harrisonburg, VA; four grandchildren, Kathlyn Ramsey Moore of Newton, NJ, Brian Lee Thomas of Harrisonburg, VA, Yasmin Tyler Faruki of Washington, DC, and Anya Tyler Faruki of Alexandria, VA; one brother, George Randolph Tyler of Arlington, VA, and two great-grandchildren.



Mary was a kind and gentle soul and her fondest memories growing up were the time she spent climbing the cliffs and exploring the beaches in La Jolla, CA. Mary was a member of the Waynewood Women's Club, Waynewood Garden Club, Mt. Vernon Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Tri Delta Sorority.



A funeral service was held at the Ramsey Family Cemetery in Rocky Mount, VA on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
