MAX STOLPER Obituary


MAX ANTON STOLPER  
Of Alexandria, VA, passed away on April 12, 2018 after a brief illness. He was 93. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1924, he emigrated to Berlin, Germany in 1925, and to the U.S. in 1933. He attended Trinity School in New York City, Harvard College, and Harvard Law School, punctuated by service in the European theater in World War II and in Germany during the Korean War. His career was spent as a lawyer in New York City and Washington D.C. and as an investment banker, including 16 years with the Latin American investment firm Deltec Panamerica S.A and in private practice, including with Sullivan & Cromwell, Nutter McClennan and Fish and Leonard Frost Levin VanCourt & Marsh, P.C. In 1952 he married Barbara Jean Stolper (née Gockley), with whom he had four children. He is survived by his son Charles of Austin, Texas and his daughter Antonia of New York City, as well as three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He served many years on the boards of the Alexandria Red Cross, the Alexandria Democratic Committee and Alexandria House Condominium. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held in Alexandria on Saturday May 19. For details, please email [email protected].
