Melvin Thomas (Tom) Hudgins (Age 89)
Melvin Thomas (Tom) Hudgins 89, passed away peacefully and with dignity under Hospice Care in Loudoun County VA. Friday February 10, 2023.
Predeceased by Father John Arthur Hudgins and Mother Mary Florence Jennings and siblings, Howard Townes Hudgins, John Leonard Hudgins, Mary Thelma Price, George Marvin Hudgins, Calvin Edward Hudgins, Billie Lee Hudgins, and Harry Edward Hudgins.
He is survived by his only child, Michael Thomas Hudgins, of South Riding, VA and sister Vera Dean Featherston of Springfield, MO, as well as dozens of beloved nieces and nephews.
After growing up in Danville, VA, he served in the US Army in Germany shortly after the Korean War and continued his commitment to protecting others as an Arlington County Policeman beginning in February 1957 serving until an on-duty neck injury forced his retirement as Sergeant, Special Unit in July of 1978.
His leadership and kindness were admired by his peers, and he exemplified the finest traditions of "Protect and Serve"
He was a devoted father to his son Mike, and loved music and collecting antique lamps, furniture and depression era glass and remained independent and active until the last weeks of his life.
Services will be held for him on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax VA. A visitation will take place from 12 to 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 1 to 2 p.m., and ending with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m.
