MICHAEL BOLAND Obituary
MICHAEL McCARTHY BOLAND, JR. (Age 23)
Of North Bethesda, Maryland passed away suddenly at his home on February 4, 2017. He was born July 9, 1993 in Washington, DC, the son of Michael and Pamela (Gasper) Boland. He graduated from Mater Dei and Georgetown Preparatory Schools. He was captain of the varsity football and basketball teams. He recently graduated from University of Massachusetts - majoring in resource economics and minoring in political science. Michael was captain of the UMASS football team earning All-Independent honors this past fall for his achievements on the field. Michael is survived by his parents, Michael and Pamela of North Bethesda, Maryland; his brother, Kelsey; his sisters, Brooke and Maggie; his grandfather, Ray Gasper of Potomac, MD; his girlfriend, Rachel Stoiber of Chevy Chase, DC; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louis and Maureen Boland; his grandmother Ramona Gasper; and his aunt, Colleen Boland. Michael leaves behind hundreds of dedicated friends and teammates. He enjoyed the beach, golf, skiing, political debate, and spending time with family and friends. Michael was bigger than life and brightened every room that he entered. The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 10 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD 20854 at 10 a.m. The Memorial Mass will follow at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael M. Boland, Jr. Scholarship Fund at Georgetown Preparatory School, 10900 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, Maryland 20852.

We did not know young Michael, however the Hurt and Boland families have been tied together for many years, when our fathers and grandfathers were 1948 graduating classmates at the Naval Academy.
