For those of us a half-generation younger at the Geographic, Mike was who we wanted to be.

With great sadness, I read of the passing of my "cousin" Mike Edwards. A member of our extended family, he visited my parents' home in Marietta, Ga on a few occasions, along with the wonderful Jennifer. I was welcomed into their home on my business trips to Washington. I will forever remember his keen mind, but more than anything, his gentle and loving spirit. With love to family. Kelley

We arrived enthusiastic, eager, and more than a little naive of the task ahead. Thanks to Mike's dedication and guidance we returned home a great deal wiser and stronger in character to face our own futures. How very fortunate we were to have share this time with Michael Edwards.

I knew Mike over 15 years or so, as a fellow member of St. John's Episcopal , Lafayette Sq., DC, and we shared memories of journalism as it was in its heyday. More than 20 years separated us but I loved hearing about his time at The Atlanta Journal in its great period under Ralph McGill and his time as a senior Peace Corps official in what then was a peaceful Afghanistan, under the King before it fell into appalling strife. I enjoyed dinners at Mike's and Jennifer's home and discussing civil rights and politics issues and bookjs with Mike. I am so glad I was able to spend a little time with him and look back on his growing up in Georgia, before he passed on. He was a gentle fellow with a dry sense of humour and I will miss him as I know Jennifer will, his loving wife and good companion.

Mike's leadership talent as Deputy Director for Peace Corps Jamaica contributed greatly to the sustained respect and caring among those of us in Jamaica I (1962-64).
Mike and Jennifer hosted our group for a lovely Jamaican dinner at their home during the 50th Peace Corps celebration in Washington. We are especially grateful for his continued support over the years. Thank you, Mike.

I was a PCV in Jamaica from 1964-1966, overlapping Mike's leadership stint. He made many trips to the countryside for visits and chow with volunteers. For me, the time together was always therapeutic--even without his free meal offerings.
As a Midwesterner, I was in awe of this articulate and well-read guy from the deep south--part of the "culture shock" I experienced in Jamaica.
Mike and Jamaica will always live on in my memory.

So sorry to hear that Mike is gone. I have such strong memories of working with him at the magazine, a gentleman and a scholar.

My sincere condolences to Jennifer and to all of Mike's family. I feel so fortunate to have known Mike and to have enjoyed his and Jennifer's company as neighbors and friends. I loved talking with Mike about so many issues facing our world. It does not surprise me how well versed he was in so many of these issues, especially when I learn of the positions he held during his long career as Journalist. It is an honor to have known him. He will be missed.

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jamaica from 1964 to 1966. Mike had a great influence on my life. After returning to Washington area, I visited Mike many times. My last visit was in May, 20015 at his house. A lasting memory.
