Dear Mr. and Mrs. Upton,
I was flying through the Post as I usually do each morning and was stopped suddenly by Morgan's unmistakable smile. Although I had not seen him since he was a student at Garfield, there was no doubt about who it was. I was taken back to those days when I, as an instructional assistant, would take children from the NCE special education classes into Becky Case's class for history, science and math. Many of the other students simply ignored us or,at worst, were mean. Morgan was the one bright spot there who I could always count on to be kind and encouraging to the children who needed it so badly. I hope he realized how much that meant to them and to me. You have been so much in my thoughts that I wanted you to know how he had touched my life and my heart. Judy Thompson told me about your home in Maine. Maine has always been a place where I have been able to see the world more clearly and be at peace. May you find that there, as well.

Never in my life have I met a person who could even begin to compare to Morgan and his ability to bring happiness to every body he was with. Morgan loved all of his friends unconditionally. I miss him sorely but I will hold and treasure his memory in my heart forever.
Thank you, Morgan, for touching my life.

Dearest Kate and Pete,
Our hearts ache with you both as you deal with the loss of Morgan. We are reminded of your first visit to our Maine lake house with Morgan several years ago. We recall the laughter and fun we all had watching Pete and Morgan swim and race in the lake, and the delightful visit we had. Morgan was an engaging, fun-loving young man who clearly enjoyed and appreciated his parents. Love and memories live forever. We pray that all the fond memories of Morgan at his best will bring you solace and healing. We look forward to seeing you both soon. Fondly, JoAnne and Carl

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Upton,
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I fondly remember Upton from my fifth grade class at Garfield Elementary. He was a bright and shining star, highly curious and eager to learn, especially anything related to science. I also remember the wonderful loving support you both provided him. No student could have asked for more caring parents. My heartfelt condolences to you.

Dear Kate and Pete,
As Morgan's principal when he attended Garfield Elementary School, I was constantly amazed at his creativity and wit. We had many laughs together. When we talked about school and responsibility, Morgan always shared that he was on the right road and that he knew we were all traveling that road together. In all my years of being in schools, I have never met parents who were more supportive and caring than the two of you. I look forward to seeing you in Maine where we will reminisce about the many successes of your wonderful son.
Love,
Judy Thompson

Mr. and Mrs. Upton, I was shocked to hear about the loss of Morgan when I did, I had known him for about a year and believed he was a wonderful person. I have nothing but good memories of being in Morgan's company. His passing has deeply hurt myself and the people who knew him, but I find comfort in my belief that Morgan is at peace now. My prayers go out to you.

I had the privilege of meeting and teaching Morgan multiple times in his years at Lee High School. He was always one of my favorites and inspired and touched me with his wit and intellect. My deepest sympathies go out to Peter and Kate who attended every art event and kept me informed of Morgan after he graduated. My husband and I extend our deepest sympathies and will be praying for you as you work through your grief and your loss.
