Nancy M. Packert Shashaty, M.D.  (Age 76)  
Died at home in McLean, Virginia on June 21, 2018 with children and grandchildren present. Daughter of the late Edward Packert and Cecilia Roche Packert. Husband of George for 50 years; mother of Joseph, Elizabeth and Michael; mother-in-law of Ellen, Thomas and Jill; grandmother of Felix, Anna, Cecilia, Gabriel, Dahlia, George, Jesse, Kevin and Raphael; sister of Edward (Adele) and Thomas (Mary Jo); Sister-in-law to Antoinette, Gerard, Anthony, Joy, James, Maureen, Paul and Agnes. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up mostly on Long Island. She was a supportive alumna of the College of New Rochelle and the University of New York at Downstate Medical School. After completing a fellowship in Developmental Pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical Center, she worked at the Georgetown Child Development Center in the Department of Pediatrics, and subsequently was Associate Medical Director at the Hospital for Sick Children in Washington, District of Columbia.She relished her roles as mother, wife, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, child advocate, physician, neighbor, concerned citizen and involved human being. Her prime characteristics were kindness, fairness, justice, love, helpfulness, practicality, intelligence and good humor. She had an uncanny ability to fix a problem with a cup of tea and a tuna fish sandwich. She had a special affinity for Alpine Lake in Terra Alta, West Virginia, where she gathered her family every summer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3513 N St, NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20007. Visitation will commence in the chapel at 12:30 p.m. followed by Mass in the Church at 2 p.m. A reception will follow the service.
