NANCY SMITH Obituary

NANCY HOISINGTON SMITH
loving wife, mother and grandmother, died at 81 of natural causes on June 28, 2012. Nancy is survived by her husband, Col (USA-Retired) Charles Rufus Smith, Jr.; three daughters, Carolyn, Dana and Alison; two sons, Charlie and Greg; and 10 grandchildren.  She was born in New York to a military family that settled in Santa Barbara, California where she attended high school and UCSB. After graduation, Nancy married Rufus, a recent West Point graduate, and started life as a military spouse. In 1965, they settled in Annandale, Virginia. After raising her children, Nancy cared for seven of her grandchildren at the "Daisy Hill Puppy Farm." She shared her home and cared for her mother and a sister in their later years. Nancy was also active in the Society of the Daughters of the United States Army. She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, October 12, 2012, following a 12:45 p.m. service at the Old Post Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Capital Caring (hospice care for No. Virginia).
