We were childhood friends. We lived a block away from each other and I knew him well. When we were 14-15 y.o., we were Charles Atlas´ fans and we used to do pushups on the rooftop of my apartment building almost every morning around 10am.
His dad was a retired Colonel in the Cuban Army, so he carried those genes. I think his mom was a realtor not sure. His sister Teresita was an older teenager so didn´t pay much attention to us. All in all they were a very good family and he was a very good friend. Last time I saw him he was recently married and came with his wife to visit me and introduced us. Very nice girl. There´s a good chance that in some future Incarnation we´ll meet again so can keep doing those pushups, for sure.

I was his driver when he was the S-3 with 3/60th INF 9th ID.
I learned so much from him about Freedom and being a Soldier. When he asked me to come and drive for him at G-1 I declined because I was going to go to college. Biggest mistake of my life. Thankyou Sir for everything. Every time I see a yellow VW Bug, I think of you.
I made it to Jump School and RANGER School too!
No finer Man than you.

I was a LT. in 1st BN. 10th Infantry Regiment in Fort Carson, led by then LTC Pino-Marina. He was a tremendous officer and equally tremendous leader. He had a devotion to freedom forged in the crucible of early 60s Cuba. He brought his devotion and integrity to America and I was better for him and for it. Sir, you have my life long admiration. Chris Wallace (LTC (Ret.)).
