NOREEN LUCEY Obituary

LUCEY Noreen K. Lucey (Age 69) Of Montgomery Village, MD and Washington, DC, fondly known as Nory by her grandchildren, died peacefully in her home on September 11, 2017 after a brave battle with cancer. Noreen was predeceased by her parents Harold and Ellen Kaplan. Noreen owned Write for You, an invitation and gift shop in Chevy Chase where she cherished the relationships with her co-workers and customers. With a love for cooking and entertaining, she hosted an annual family Christmas party with great pride with the same families in attendance for over 40 years. She had a sharp wit, excellent sense of style, always wearing a great necklace, and was extraordinarily creative. She loved giving back and was actively involved in her small faith community at St. Rose of Lima. One of her greatest passions was her involvement at Washington Jesuit Academy helping tutor young men and guiding them toward future success. Nory's greatest love was her family. She was married to the love of her life, Jim Lucey, for over 48 years. They met when Nory was still in high school over 50 years ago on Staten Island, NY where they both were raised. Noreen and Jim always laughed together, traveled frequently and enjoyed their time with friends and family. Nory was a wonderful mother to her three children, Ellen, Matthew and Katie, who she taught to be independent, self-reliant and great parents themselves. She was a fun loving supportive mother-in-law to sons-in-law, Stefan Manford and Tom Hines and daughter-in-law, Beth Lucey. She never missed an opportunity to get together with her children and nine grandchildren, Quinn, Norah, James, Addie, Robert, Thea, Matthew, Kit and Maguire. She truly enjoyed being with her sister, Barbara Kaplan and sister-in-law, Mary Alice O'Malley, brother-in-law, Tom O'Malley, her nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, September 18, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 11701 Clopper Rd., Gaithersburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Noreen Lucey WJA Scholarship Fund or to Montgomery Hospice.
