ORIEL C. MORRIS

MORRIS ORIEL C. MORRIS, MD On Sunday, September 2, 2012, passed peacefully at her home in Arlington, VA, at the age of 89, surrounded by family after a battle with lung cancer. Born in Brisbane, Australia, daughter of the late Bernard Flewell-Smith and Molly Darling. A "war bride,' in 1944 in Brisbane she married the late Murrell Pinckney Morris, a US Army officer. She earned her medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1945. A board-certified family practitioner, she practiced medicine in Mayaguez, PR and for over 25 years at Group Health Association, a pioneer HMO in Washington, DC. An Arlington resident since 1959, Oriel was predeceased by her husband in 1974. She leaves behind three daughters: Carlin Timmons (Clyde) of Sullivan's Island, SC, Emelyn Morris-Sayre (Jim) of Lakewood, CO and Margaret Weiss, MD (Robert) of Baltimore, MD; nine grand-children and three great-grandchildren. Survivors also include family in Australia and Louisiana. Friends are invited to a celebration of her wonderful life at her home in Arlington, Virginia on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Oriel's memory can be made to: Doctors Without Borders USA; Planned Parenthood, Washington DC Metro Chapter; or Capital Caring Hospice Services.
