PATRICIA MACHEREY Obituary

MACHEREY Patricia Harper Macherey Patricia Harper Macherey was called home to our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 11, 2019 with her loving husband and daughter by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 73 years old. Pat was born November 6, 1945 at the United States Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. Shortly after her birth, Pat and her parents relocated to Norfolk, Virginia where she spent her childhood. After moving with her parents to Washington, DC, Pat earned her Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs from George Washington University in 1967. While completing her studies, she met her future husband Doug and they were married on February 15, 1969. Pat was an active member of the Delta Zeta sorority, both while in college and throughout the rest of her life. She and her husband moved to Springfield, Virginia in 1974. Pat had a long and distinguished career with the U.S. Marshals Service and was their first female Division Chief. She received the Attorney General's Award for Excellence in Management in 1995 and a number of Director's Special Achievement Awards throughout her 30 year career. She loved the Northern Virginia area and frequently attended lectures on art and history at the Smithsonian and at Mt. Vernon. Pat enjoyed traveling internationally - her favorite destinations were Paris, Santorini, and most especially Grand Cayman. Pat was a connoisseur of fine champagne, and was an avid reader of Jane Austin and historical non-fiction relating to the Revolutionary War and World War II. She was a devoted member of Burke United Methodist Church for many years and volunteered as an Office Angel. Pat touched many lives with her infectious personality, her beautiful smile, her incredibly generous and loving nature, and her opinionated spirit! Pat is survived by her beloved husband Douglas Macherey, her loving daughter Laura Ott, her two adorable grandchildren: Blaise Christopher Ott (2 ½ years old), and Grace Beatrice Ott (4 months old); and her rescue poodle Bella. Pat was predeceased by her mother Ethel Harper Sherrard, her father David Alfred Sherrard, and by her beloved poodles Jolie, Gigi, Pierre, and Angel. Always in our minds and hearts, long live the Queen! In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made in her name to either Burke United Methodist Church (https://www.burkeumc.org/) or the Mt. Vernon Ladies' Association (https://www.mountvernon.org/donate/). I just sent this to the only number I had for you folks. It bounced back so did a little digging only to find this very sad news. My memories of Patricia are far-reaching and fond! Champagne for everyone! My heartfelt condolences are real even after this lapse in time.

Greetings from Florida!
I've become hooked on The Crown and just watched a NetFlix documentary on Elizabeth and Margaret. They reminded me how much you were enamored with Diana and Charles and the entire family. I have found myself just as enamored and fascinated and amazed as their lives continue to unfold before the entire world. I feel for them all.
Hope you are well...please pass along my good wishes to your family.

I am deeply saddened by this news. I had the honor and privilege of working with Pat during my time at HQ. A more intelligent, informed and professional individual would be hard to find. Pat was an inspiration to us all...and she kept us honest (lol). And above all, she had a beautiful soul. My most profound and deepest sympathies to her family. I loved her dearly...I shall miss this amazing woman. May you find your place beside our Lord!

Linda and I were saddened to hear of Pat's passing. I met Pat in the early 90's with The Marshal Service was in crisis over Housing and Medical care for Prisioners. I was fortunate to have been assigned to several committees with Pat and was impressed with her knowledge of Medical care and procedures and learned much from her.
We continued to be in contact during retirement. It was always uplifting talking with her.

To Doug , Laura and husband and the Macherey family be comforted to know an Angel is watching over you and her beloved grand children Blaise and Grace ,her dog Bella. Rest In Peace my friend.

I met Pat over forty years ago at Marshal Service HQ. She was one of the nicest and smartest persons I've ever met in my life. I'm truly grateful to have known her and called her my friend. She will truly be missed by all of us who knew her. May she RIP. God bless her always. My prayers for Doug and family.

I met Pat at the Marshals Service in 1982. We were both expecting our first babies and quickly bonded over that shared experience. Our daughters, Laura and Liz became friends and I have fond memories of attending birthday tea parties and other events over the years. We met her lovely husband Doug and so enjoyed knowing the family.

At work, Pat was a trailblazer for other women, becoming the Marshals Service's first female division chief. I admired her spunk and courage. We worked together at the agency for many years, and continued our friendship. I will miss Pat always.

Mark and I send prayers for comfort and healing to Doug and Laura and family.

The Machereys and the Lowes have been friends since 1969. We were bridge partners for years in Germany way back then. We traveled together to many countries over the years. We will really miss the good times together. Rest in peace Pat.

I am saddened to hear of Pat's passing. I had just turned 18 when I joined the USMS in 1982, and was hired by Pat to work in her division. She took me under her wing and called me her munchkin'. She taught me much about the work and the world. I soaked in her wisdom and knowledge for 11 years; and it helped to shape me into the woman I am today. I am and will always be thankful for Pat. Every November 6 (her birthday), I remember and say a prayer for her. Doug, Laura and family, you are in my prayers; may you be strengthened and comforted by The Comforter. Pat will be remembered.

I met Mrs. Patricia (Pat) Macherey in 1996 when I was hired to work with her in the Medical section of Prisoner Operations at the U.S. Marshals Service. She taught me so much about the medical field, and did not mind holding my hand until I felt comfortable with doing the job. I remember the long days of working with her on several projects. She was strong, very knowledgeable, and determined. She will be missed.
