Patsy Cole Obituary

COLE PATSY LEE CASH COLE Devoted wife, doting mother, incomparable singer of jazz, and the most incredible elementary-school teacher ever, died peacefully last Thursday morning, December 8, 2011, at the age of 85. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 49 years, William W. Cole, by six months. Survived by her brother, Floyd Allen Cash, of Hurst, TX; her most fortunate son, Tad, of Austin, TX; her aunt, Rev. Joyce McCown, of DeQueen, AR, and uncle, Kenneth Allen McMullen, of Tulsa, OK; her goddaughter, Lisa Lee Wininger, of Charlotte, NC; her extended family of Mike and Chong Ja Park of Alexandria, VA; and her grandchildren, Joy Paeske of Encinitas, Amy Park Ewing of Virginia Beach, VA, Adam Park of Arlington, and Patty Park Fleming of Dallas, TX. After graduating the Oklahoma A&M University, Mrs. Cole initially pursued the passion she enjoyed while singing and gigging with The Varsitonians in school ~ music. Possessed of a million-dollar voice (and phrasing), she performed in a host of club and college venues across the southwest, including a marathon, five-hour-plus jam in Ardmore, OK, where the bandleader had to finally dismiss the insatiable crowd because the vocalist had, at last, lost her voice. As a radio and TV personality at station WKY in Oklahoma City, Patsy's genuine warmth and inescapable charm were hard to miss. But above all, she longed to be a mother and to raise a family. As a teacher in the Oklahoma City school system, she had plenty of children with whom to share her unique gifts and care. After eventually having one of her own, she later re-married an Army officer whose career introduced her to the inseparable White Hats, and took her to Germany, Kansas (a one-room schoolhouse), Hawaii, and finally to the Fairfax County system at Westmore, Stratford Landing, and Orange Hunt Elementary. It was a common occurrence for parents to attempt any means necessary to secure their child's placement in her classroom. Upon retiring, Mrs. Cole cultivated an extensive collection of day-lillies and other floral wonders in her personal refuge, the magic garden at the home that she and her husband designed and built 34 years ago. Her membership in the Garden Club of Fairfax was a cherished thing, as were the memories made both there and within the "circle of friends" of her book-club companions. Arrangements at Arlington National Cemetery are pending. In lieu of flowers, please remember her to the angels at Capital Caring.

It was a wonderful day for a service. A gathering of friends and family, memories traded, and warm embraces had by all. She would have not had it any other way.

I have known Patt for about 15 years. She was a mentor to me, and helped me to pass the GCV Judging School test. We both became GCV Judges! We had so many fun and adventurous experiences. She was Horticulture Chr. while I was Pres. of the GCF. She carried out her duties above and beyond the call! I am blessed to have her for a friend even now. Love ya', Sister

My prayers to all the family from all of the Ringles. Pat and Bill were so much more than just friends to our family and we will miss them very much. Both Bill & Pat were so full of life and gave so much love to others, they will always be remembered.

My aunt Pat will always be remembered as my guidance counselor. She was always willing to listen to me and share her opinion whether I liked it or not. This made for some great conversations along with a mutually developed respect for one another. I most definitely enjoyed each of the times we shared together. I love you Pat!

Aunt Pitty Pat was larger than life. She was the smartest, most interesting woman I knew. That lady had class to spare. Being around her made me want to try harder. I love and miss her.

I shall miss Pat. She was the soloist at my wedding to Martin T. Cash, Jr. in 1962. My sister Frances (a dear friend of Pat's) and Pat both caught the Wedding Bouquet, which admitted them to the Wedding Bouquet Catchers Society. According to the Photographer, that is.

Tad, I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Although I don't remember meeting either of your parents, knowing you leads me to believe that she was a woman of great substance. Surely, the angels in Heaven are rejoicing. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. May God continue to sustain and comfort your family during this time of sorrow. Blessings, and best regards!

As one of the "White Hat" children, I remember Ms. Patt's laughter and love at our regular potluck gatherings. She and Celia would often break into song. She lovingly gave me her "Dresden Four Seasons Angels" after mine were burn in my house fire in 1986. I always remember her each time I look at them. It's good to know she is reunited with the "love of her life" and in the presence of the Lord.

Sweet and dear Aunt Patt...You have been a wonderful aunt, friend and advocate my entire life, yet it was not until my adult years that I realized how precious you were to me! I love you and will miss you terribly. God Bless always. I will see you again!
