Argy
Paul J. Argy
Paul James Argy, 67, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2023, surrounded by family. Paul was a beloved father, "PopPop," brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
Paul was born in Washington, DC, the third child of James Paul and Marjorie Ada Argyropoulos. Growing up with his two sisters, Paul enjoyed being part of a large extended Greek family. Paul spent the majority of his life in the Washington, DC metropolitan area where he raised four children with former wife, Debbie Argy.
After graduating from the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business in 1978, Paul began a long and successful career in accounting and consulting. In 1990, with faith in himself and support at home, Paul started his own company. Within a year, he joined with Joyce Robinson and Steve Wiltse to launch Argy, Wiltse and Robinson, P.C. (Argy), a full-service accounting firm specializing in government contracting. Over the course of 22 years, Paul led the firm to more than 300 employees and numerous recognitions. Argy was named one of the "Top 100 Firms" in the nation by both Accounting Today and Inside Public Accounting, climbing to 57th in the country after just twenty years. It was also recognized as one of the "Best of the Best" managed firms and "Best Places to Work."
Paul saw the company through its successful sale to BDO in 2012 and continued his professional career as a consultant and board member, including most recently as Director of the Board of Gibbs and Cox, Inc., an engineering and design firm.
Despite his busy career, Paul always made time for meaningful experiences with family and friends. He lived a full life. Paul's fondest memories were made with his family while skiing, cruising and playing on the beach. He enjoyed dancing, listening to music and playing cards; he was known for his knack for winning at poker.
Competitive to his core â€" but always a good sportsman â€" Paul relished both watching and coaching his children in youth sports. His immense pride in his children's accomplishments - from athletics, to college graduations and conference rooms - was evident. His homes were filled with pictures of his family, including his children, grandchildren, parents, siblings and nieces.
Paul spent the majority of his retirement in Florida, where he was a member of the Boca Raton Club, playing golf and enjoying visits from family and friends.
Paul was predeceased by his father and mother. He is survived by many loving family members including his four children Kristen Kessler (Perry), Kimberly Estes (Matthew), Kate Kellogg (Justin), and James Argy; his seven grandchildren, Adam, Ethan, Corinne, William, Ada, Colin and Edith; his sisters Carol Greeson (Gerald) and Janet Miller (Claude); his nieces Jennifer Greeson and Laura Guy; and numerous cousins such as life-long best friend, Paul Argyropoulos.
A celebration of Paul's life will be held at the International Country Club in Fairfax, VA on October 3, 2023 at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of the many charities that Paul so generously supported such as the
Alzheimer's Association, Feed the Children, or the American National Red Cross.
