Of Woodbridge, VA on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at Potomac Hospital. He was born and raised in Washington, D.C. and earned a living as a paper boy at the Southeast Ferry Terminal during the Depression. He served his country as a heavy machine gunner in the Battle of the Bulge, then in the Rhineland and Central European campaigns of World War II. He was missing in action for 15 days. He introduced recreational boating to the Occoquan River as founder of Hoffmasters Marina specializing in family boating. He played a seminal role in growing the D.C. boating market to one of the top 25 in North America. His survivors include his wife, Martha L. Hoffmaster; brothers, Jack and Gene Hoffmaster; sister, Barbara Floyd; children Deborah Hoch and Joseph Hoffmaster. Grandchildren include Diedre Evans, Andrea Agunat, Catharine Hoch, David Hoch and Olivia Hoffmaster. His great-grandchildren include Bailey Weatherholz, Katelyn Agunat and Anthony Agunat. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA on Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where Services will be held Monday, April 8 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery with Military Honors.
