Paul was my coworker and friend in South Carolina. Plenty of ambition and desire to succeed, combined with the utmost professionalism, was my coworker. Shared stories, humor, a helping hand when needed, was my friend. Still miss you and will never forget.

I attended flight school with Paul In 1985 and watched him earn his wings at Rucker. I just found a picture of him in the right seat, so I wanted to just post this to say he was a great guy. I only knew him for a short time but will never forget him.

Dear Maria & Children,

I had the honor, while brief, to know your husband and father while assigned to OSAA. During that time, it was readily apparent to me that he was well liked and respected by all who knew him - it is rare to achieve both. He was a true leader and mentor to all those who worked for him. I can only imagine how wonderful of a husband and father he was to all of you. Please know that his charater and love for his family carries on in your hearts and may your children remind you of him and warm your heart. He is truly missed by all and will always be fondly remebered by those whose lives he has touched. May God bless you and your Family now and forever.

Sir,
Not a day goes by I don't think about what you did for us in 224th I have yours and Big Daddy's picture on my wall... We all loved you in the 224th and could have never asked for a better PC. Sir, you have always inspired me every time we talked or you came around and ironically i can't help but constantly think about the leadership you taught us young soldiers. How you made a point to know all of us, and be familiar with us. Years after your passing sir your legacy lives in each of us. I hope some day i too can reach the standards you set so high for all of us, and i know because of you i will. I regret not being there in Iraq with you sir, but god has his reasons. We loved you sir and you will never be forgotten in our hearts and thoughts always.

Sir, I only knew you briefly but that was all it took to know these things about you: you loved the Lord, you loved your wife, you loved your sons, you took care of Soldiers, and you always led by example. I think of you every time I put on the uniform because maybe one day, I can grow to be as fine of an officer as your were. Your family is regularly in my prayers. Thanks Sir, for the impact you've had on my life.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Paul, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I had the great fortune to serve with Colonel Paul Kelly in Iraq. He would come to my office in the Al Faw Palace, Camp Victory, Iraq for guidance on Safety issues. I had an opportunity to fly with him in October 06 to different locations within theater. I still look at those pictures of him and I thank God to allow a man, father, soldier, and leader like him to come into my life even under those harsh circumstances. The 1 year anniversary of his untimely death is creeping upon us and I hope and pray that his family is strong through the holiday season and my prayers are with them.

To the Kelly Family:

I arrived in Baghdad only two days before the helicopter crash that took Paul's life. Another friend of mine, Brian Allgood, was also on that flight. I was in shock for several days, not able to comprehend how their lives were now lost and I had many months ahead of me in Iraq. I worked with Paul for five years at NGB and remember when he came to work at the Readiness Center full of energy and ready to tackle the many projects ahead. Paul was great to work with because he was so optimistic and willing to see the good in things. It was great to share the burden with one so capable and so giving. After I left NGB and would return to visit, Paul was always ready to greet me with a big smile and update me on all that was happening.

This coming Friday I will be at my daughter's middle school for their recognition of veterans who have served overseas in support of OIF and OEF. While I was reluctant to accept the offer, I know that in my heart I am taking with me the memories of a truly great American soldier, Paul Kelly, and all that he accomplished in his 45 years.

May the Lord bless you and comfort you as only He can.

Served with COL Kelly in Bosnia and before/after with 224th Aviation as a Quality Control Inspector...we answered directly to him, inspecting the aircraft after maintenance as his representative for safety, directly on orders from him to sign them off to fly..he never contradicted his inspector NCO's in the area of maintenance, trusted us implicitly..a very nice guy, backed us up. Only flew with him a couple of times, but he seemed to be a good pilot, didn't stress out our aircraft :) Always had time to smile and chat for a couple minutes...he and SSG Booker are missed..:(

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

HE WAS LOVED BY HIS MEN AND RESPECTED IN HIS CHOSEN BRANCH OF SERVICE. HE LED HIS MEN BY EXAMPLE. THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT ON SUCH MEN AND THEIR LEADERSHIP QUALITIES. To the family of Col. Kelly,

My name is Sara Brown. We are neighbors as I live at WPAFB. I lost my husband, CPL Nicholas Brown, in Iraq two days after Col. Kelly's accident. Unfortunately, I can honestly say I feel your pain. It's hard to believe it has already been two months. I am positive he is sitting in Heaven watching over you. Your entire family will forever be in the hearts and prayers of myself and my newborn son. Your loved one as well as mine will forever be heroes to our family. May God be with you now, and always.

With Love from one military family to another,

The Brown Family
