PAUL NEILS Obituary

NEILS Paul Neils Paul Neils, a patent attorney and resident of Fairfax Station, VA, died unexpectedly December 6, 2021, at the age of 62, in his home. Paul is survived by his parents, Sally and Fred Neils; his wife, Peggy Neils; his children, Colin and Drew; his daughter-in-law, Jackie Neils; his granddaughter Vivian Neils and his future grandson; his brothers Tom Neils (Stephanie) and Eric Neils (Pauline). Paul was born on October 4, 1959 in Allegan, Michigan to Sally and Fred Neils. He graduated from Allegan High School in 1978. He then graduated from Michigan State University in 1982 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and then graduated Law School in 1989 from The Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America. He began his career at the Patent Trademark Office before he joined the private law firm Sughrue Mion and worked his way up to Partner. After this, Paul was with Akerman Senterfitt's Intellectual Property Practice. He would then go off and start his own law firm with Jean Edwards, Edwards Neils LLC. In 1983 he married his college sweetheart Peggy, a fellow Spartan. He then welcomed his two handsome sons, Colin and Drew, who were the most important part of his life. Paul was a devoted husband, loving son, caring father, and avid nature lover. He enjoyed long walks through the neighborhood and taking bicycle rides with Peggy down to Burke Lake Park and riding down Gulf Shore Blvd. in Naples, FL where Paul and Peggy vacationed. Paul enjoyed tending to his many bird feeders in the backyard and watching all the various types of bird species interact in front of his eyes. Paul also had multiple Bonsai plants in the house and on their deck that he loved to water and care for in his free time. Paul was a skillful handyman and would routinely fix small issues around the house when they would come up. He prided himself on being a problem-solver and being able to resolve challenges without asking for help or someone else to fix it. Paul was a very religious man, he attended Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and was an active parishioner in the Church. Every night before Colin and Drew would fall asleep growing up, Paul would go into their bedrooms and say their Prayers and kiss them goodnight. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on December 18, 2021 at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3233 Annandale Road, Falls Church. Pastor Kevin Wattles will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family of Paul Neils respectfully asks that all memorials be made in memory of Paul Neils to: Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church 3233 Annandale Road Falls Church, Virginia 22042 www.gracefallschurch.org/donatewww.gracefallschurch.org/donate
