PENELOPE HOLLOWAY Obituary

PENELOPE FAIRBANKS HOLLOWAY "Penny"
Passed away on September 28, 2018, at her home in Arlington, VA. Penny was an Arlington, Virginia native and is survived by her brother Lyman Fairbanks III, stepson Paul "Bucky" Holloway and many very dear friends that she considered family. Penny had a successful career in the retail, real estate, and hospitality businesses. She traveled the world and in addition to Arlington, she had residences in New York City and Australia. Penny was a patron of the arts and had her own impressive collection of modern art. She was well known in Washington society and was a generous philanthropist supporting the great work of many institutions including The Phillips Collection, Arena Stage, Halcyon, The National Gallery of Art, The Barnes Foundation, Hillwood, The National Symphony Orchestra, and American Friends of Versailles. Penny was also a stalwart supporter of the fair treatment of animals and donated to the ASPCA, Humane Society and local animal shelters. Penny was a truly unique person, all who knew her would agree that she had a real passion for life; and for her, the relationship with her friends was most dear. She is loved and cherished by all of those who knew her and were fortunate to be in her life. She will be deeply missed but her memory will last forever. In lieu of a memorial service, Penny's friends will host a "Celebration of Life" event in the near future. In her memory, donations are suggested to: The Humane Society of the USA, the ASPCA foundations for animal welfare and rescue, or to your favorite animal shelter or rescue program.
