Perry Magee Obituary

PERRY MAGEE

Federal Personnelist/Oracle Consultant

After a long battle with colon cancer, KAREN PERRY MAGEE died at her home in Potomac Falls, VA on June 19, 2005. A 22 year resident of Loudoun County, VA, she was born on October 2, 1943 in South Charleston, WV to James T. Perry and the late Loretta Perry. She attended South Charleston High School and Morris Harvey College, graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in Educa-

tion. While living in Columbia, MD, she worked for the James W. Rouse Company. During this period, she met William G. Magee, Jr. and married him on June 8, 1973. They moved to Arlington, VA, where she worked for the Arlington County Public Schools. In 1983, she began her career with the Federal Government as a personnel specialist with the Department of the Army at Fort Myer, VA. She later transferred to the Office of Personnel Management where she served as a personnel intern and then joined the ranks of the U.S. Department of State as a recruiter. Finally, she went to work for the U.S. Customs Service, where she retired in 1999. Following her retirement, she worked for Oracle Corporation as a consultant implementing automated personnel systems in the Federal Government. She retired in April 2004.

Mr. and Mrs. Magee raised their son, Mark, in Arlington, VA, and she enjoyed her years as a Naval Academy mom. An avid gardener, she loved to travel and she enjoyed her summer place, "Turtle Cove", near Bethany Beach, DE. She devoted countless hours to her granddaughters, Samantha and Lauren. She loved life and will be remembered by the many family members and friends whose lives she touch.

She is survived by her husband, William; her son, Mark; her father, James T. Perry; her daughter-in-law, Barrie; her two granddaughters, Samantha and Lauren, and her brother, James T. Perry Jr.

A memorial service will be held at THE MURPHY FUNERAL HOME OF ARLINGTON, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA at 12 noon on Friday, June 24, 2005. The family asks, that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society or to Capital Hospice.endcol
