A Life of Love, Service,
and Dedication
Peter Grier Freck, an accomplished engineer, devoted public servant, and beloved family patriarch, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025. Born on August 14, 1934, in Hinsdale, Illinois, Peter built a life rich with intellectual achievement, service to his country, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved most.
Peter considered his family to be the most important aspect of his life, stating they supported him "through thick and thin" and gave him "more love than any human has any right to expect." His life's narrative is a testament to this profound devotion.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Masin Freck (Vassar 1958), with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage and who passed away in 2012; his parents, Stanley G. Freck (Princeton 1919) and Josephine Cupp Freck; and his two loving sisters, Elizabeth Eve Switzer and Nancy Freck Whitten.
His legacy lives on through his three devoted sons: Stanley Grier Freck (Christine Braun), William Robert Freck and John Stuart Freck (Amy). He was a proud and supportive grandfather to seven cherished grandchildren: Kendall, Jacob, Peter, Symon, Henry, Aidan, and Asa.
He found later-life companionship with his loving partner of 11 years, Beverly Hopkins, who also survives him.
Peter Grier Freck was a man of quiet intelligence, boundless generosity, and exceptional warmth. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity and love that will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. on October 24, 2025 at Burke Presbyterian Church, 5690 Oak Leather Dr. Burke Center, VA 22015.
Peter checked off his last "bucket list item" with a trip to Africa with his sons for his 90th birthday. Through their host, Micato Safaris, Peter and his sons were introduced to and deeply moved by the Micato AmericaShare Charitable foundation and the effect they have in providing educational resources to children living in Kenya and South Africa.
