Philip Christophe Obituary

Philip Alan Christophe II, 30, passed away on May 18, 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland. Phil was born August 4, 1993 in Chapel Hill, NC. Before the age of three, he survived two separate heart surgeries and became his parents' miracle child. He carried this dogged determination throughout his life, growing into a man who persevered and intrinsically knew how to show empathy to all without reservation. Phil led by example and taught others to better themselves through his character.

Phil grew up in Clifton, Virginia. He excelled at soccer and loved playing pick-up football in all seasons. As a student at Centreville High School, Phil ran varsity track and field and as a senior competed at the Virginia Outdoor Track State Championship in the long jump and triple jump. After graduating, he attended Christopher Newport University, where he studied economics, was a four-year student athlete on the track team, and launched a campus-wide small business (Captains Cookies, LLC).

Phil began his career at ADP where he was promoted twice in 3 years and was recognized for outstanding performance by the company CEO. He continued building his career, ultimately moving into a role as a payroll tax analyst at Johns Hopkins University.

In his free time, Phil enjoyed boating on the Potomac, hiking locally and in the Blue Ridge Mountains, biking, and playing games. But mostly, he enjoyed giving to others, be it time or money. His friends and family could always count on Phil to help with a favor or house project. Over the course of two years, he built a relationship with the Ronald McDonald house in Baltimore, donating stuffed animals, toys, flower bouquets, a television, video game consoles, controllers, and games to families in need. His generosity and kindness were limitless.

He is survived by his loving parents Katherine and Stephen Christophe, siblings Andrew Christophe and Sarah Christophe (Jeff Bryan), nephew Everett Bryan, grandmothers Carol Christophe and Tilda Herring, and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He was preceded in death by grandfathers Philip Christophe and Willard Herring. He left us far too soon and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Donations in his name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore, MD, UNC Hospitals Children's Programs, or the American Heart Association. Service to be scheduled for a later date.

I'm devastated by this news. I was very fortunate to have been Philip's high school journalism teacher for four years. He was an absolute joy to work with. My heart is broken.

To Phil's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Phil was an incredible person. He was selfless, loving, honest and goofy. Some of my most memorable moments in college are from times spent with Phil. This included many late nights chatting (procrastinating) about anything and everything, struggling through accounting together, and living together for the better part of our 4+ year stay at CNU.

Phil was a good friend and I will miss him dearly. He never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh or offer his support. He had an impact on my life that will stay with me forever.

With Love,
Hank Blumreich
