Phyllis Rottmann Obituary

Phyllis Jean Rottmann, age 94, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Sterling Care Hillhaven in Adelphi, MD after many years of exceptional care by all who crossed her path.
Phyllis was born August 8, 1930, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC to Edgar and Elizabeth Kern who resided in Takoma Park, MD.
Her father, Edgar, was an attorney with the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Her mother, Elizabeth, worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Washington, DC. Phyllis was the second oldest of four siblings; a brother and two sisters, all who have predeceased her.
Phyllis attended Maryland Park High School in Seat Pleasant, MD where she graduated in 1948. That summer she was employed doing clerical work at a business office in Washington, DC. Later that year, she met her future husband, Glenn Herbert Rottmann from Quincy, IL who had been recently discharged from serving in the US Army during WWII. They were married on February 19, 1950, and resided in Prince Georges County, MD.
Phyllis became a housewife and stay-at-home mom, raising her three sons, Glenn Louis, Donald Herbert, and Gary Edward, all who went on to serve honorably in the United States Armed Forces. She was also kept busy over the years tending to an ongoing menagerie of dogs, birds, rabbits, hamsters, and mice. Her other interests included bowling, ceramics, sewing, and arts & crafts.
She is survived by her sons, Glenn Louis (wife, Dee) and Donald Herbert (wife, Esther), as well as five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Phyllis remained married for 61 years until her husbands' death in 2011; he currently rests at Arlington National Cemetery where she will now join him.
