Polly Roulhac Obituary

Polly Ann Roulhac born May 18, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri died peacefully in Washington, DC, Easter morning, April 20, 2025. She was the third child of George and Polly Ann Roulhac (both deceased) and a sister to Dudley Grove, Debby Poitevent, Win Roulhac (deceased) and Muffy Sewall. Known as Bambi (or Anne) she grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and attended Mary Baldwin College, where she pursued her interests in writing for the school newspaper. She was a brilliant scholar and devout Episcopalian. With an MA in English (University of Michigan), she pursued a career in editing in St. Louis and then for the National Gallery in Washington. She worked for Citibank in NYC; then returned to Washington to work until retirement. Bambi loved French culture and explored France, French history, art, and cooking! When she retired, she studied classical music, art, languages, & gardening. She returned to the National Gallery as a volunteer and became a devoted volunteer at the National Cathedral where she loved arranging flowers for the beautification of the church. Things of beauty gave her great comfort. Her funeral will be held 10 a.m., June 10, 2025, St Mary's Chapel at the National Cathedral. A gathering will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Cathedral, Christ Church Georgetown, The National Gallery of Art, Mary Baldwin University, or a charity of your choosing.

I had the pleasure of working with Polly in art information as a volunteer at the National Gallery of Art. We will miss Polly´s presence as a volunteer - she was a wealth of knowledge and had a passion for the arts that led her to return to the National Gallery as a volunteer years after spending time working in the Editor´s office here.

I never knew Ann as Polly or Bambi!

We served together on the Altar Guild at Christ Church Georgetown. When Annie (... she just rolled her eyes at me!) committed to do something, I could move on knowing she´d deliver. The side of her that I loved so much was her sense of humor: you never saw it coming.

We accepted that she was a private person, but I regret not being there to offer my hand and heart as her she began that walk to heaven.

May our Heavenly Father take away her pain and embrace her beautiful soul. Annie, you are loved.

Ann was a loving and important member of the Altar Guild at Christ Church Georgetown for many years. She was always ready to teach new members and they always loved their time with her. She performed her duties to perfection with the utmost care and devotion. Ann was also quick to volunteer for the less popular services. Her addition of a whole poached salmon to our annual dinner was always the crown jewel. She was great company when we would move from our meetings to dinner in a local restaurant ! Once she noticed a fellow member was having pain while ironing so Ann quietly ordered a stool to provide some comfort for her during thier service. Her love of others was also seen in her work on the Grate Patrol -feeding the homeless. We miss her very much.

I am so sorry to hear of Ann's passing. I knew her from the cathedral and she was always so very pleasant and nice. I knew that she was ill and during the end of her time at the cathedral she was having physical trouble so I am glad that she can rest easy and her suffering is done. She was a lovely person.
