Raymond Case Obituary

Case

Raymond Edward Case

Cherished father and grandfather passed away August 25, 2023, of heart failure and complications from Parkinson's disease. He is survived by daughters Heather Case and April Case Underwood, son-in-law Mark Underwood, and five grandchildren - Colin, Anderson, Campbell, Arden, and Case.

Born in 1939, Ed grew up in Smithtown, New York, before attending Davis & Elkins College. At age 21, Ed became a Marine.

After his tour ended, Ed came to northern Virginia where his parents and little brother Lou had moved. The next year, he met and married Nancyrae. They spent nearly 56 years together before her passing in 2020.

Ed had a wide variety of interests. He could be counted on to know details about all kinds of planes and guns. He also picked up photography, sailing, and model train building. He shared his hobbies with others and made many lifelong friends. Ed also returned to the military, serving in the Navy Reserves for two decades until retiring.

Ed was never more at home, than at the family place in Vermont. He loved watching the sun rise from the back porch.

A service to honor both Ed and Rae will be held Friday, September 15, at 11 a.m. at Idylwood Presbyterian, 7617 Idylwood Rd., Falls Church, VA. He will be laid to rest later, alongside Rae, at Arlington National Cemetery.

If so moved, please honor Ed's memory with a donation to a military organization, or to help Vermont flood victims at https://floodready.vermont.gov/help-after-flooding#Donate

Ed and Rae will always be in my heart. They were good people. I still have a plant that Rae gave me growing and thriving in my garden. And he came over with his chain saw and took down a small dying tree. And I remember all the carpooling we did when Healther and Laura were in high school. Heather and April were blessed with loving, helpful parents. I will always miss them.

Oh Ed! No wonder you're not answering the phone! I am glad you are no longer suffering, but so regret we didn't get one more visit....You have been a part of my life and fantastic memories since we were in college! I'm sure you and Rae have reunited and are having a blast in Heaven! Much love to you both and to your parents. Forever, Jane

Ed and his dear wife Rae were the kindest, sweetest people I ever knew. I still have a plant that Rae dug from her yard and gave to me years ago. One time I asked Ed to borrow his saw. He came to my house and sawed the limb himself. I will never forget them. May they rest in His love and peace forever.

Ed and Rae were long-time neighbors of ours in Vienna. They were both so kind and giving. They will be missed.
