Renée Heier Obituary
RENÉE A. HEIER (Age 88)
Renée Angela Heier of Springfield, VA, passed away on September 13, 2022. Renée was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 5, 1934. She entered the Dominican Order in 1952 and obtained her graduate degree in education from the University of Notre Dame. In 1970, she left the Order and moved to Washington, DC, where she met the love of her life. Renée and Al were married in l972. She retired from Fairfax County Public Schools in l997. Renée was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Hugh Duerr, her beloved husband Al, her sister Dolores Duttweiler, and brother George Duerr. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Hopewell, her husband Peter, their children Jack and Erin, and numerous nieces and nephews. Renée was the epitome of grace, beauty, gentleness and kindness to all. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy in the countless number of students whose lives she touched in her 42 years as a teacher and administrator. A visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral Home on Monday, September 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. A private burial will occur the following day. Details available at www.DemaineFunerals.com. A joint memorial service honoring the lives of both Renée and Al will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to So Others Might Eat by phone at 202-797-8806.
