RICHARD C. Castrodale September 17, 1939 – June 22, 2022

Richard C. Castrodale passed away peacefully on June 22, 2022 in Little River, SC with his family by his side. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Cecil P and Bernice Castrodale. Richard graduated from University of Pittsburgh in 1961 and later graduated from Yale University with an MFA in playwriting.

Based for many years in Great Falls, VA, Richard was a career U.S. Foreign Service Officer for 25 years with postings in Johannesburg, Algiers, Stockholm, Chiang Mai and Songkhla Thailand and Nairobi. After retirement from the State Department, Richard worked for the United Nations in Geneva and Islamabad on de-mining efforts in Afghanistan.

Richard and his wife of 54 years, Diane, retired to Little River, SC in 2006. They both enjoyed walks on the beach, kayaking and traveling abroad.

Richard is survived by his wife, Diane, his three children, Rowan (Matt), Louisa (Mike) and Alex (Katie), six grandchildren, Ethan, Joel, Sam, Anna, Anelise and Eamon and one brother, Robert of Chelan, WA.

A private family memorial service will take place in the future.
