Richard Burr Froh
Passed away at his home in Falls Church on May 15, 2021. He was the only son of Richard K. and Elizabeth Froh and is survived by his wife, Fay; two sons, Geoffrey and Christopher; daughters-in-law, Amanda and Deborah; three beloved granddaughters, Eliza, Esther, and Iris; and countless loving friends and neighbors, near and far. Richard was born in Bakersfield, California and studied at Sacramento City College, Sacramento State University, and the UC San Francisco School of Pharmacy where he was a Regents Scholar. In 1967, he and Fay married in Salinas and moved to Boston where he enrolled in the School of Public Health at Harvard University. Richard dedicated his career to championing equitable and affordable health care for all while serving in the Public Health Service, advocating for access to healthcare for the poor at the UCLA School of Law, expanding rural clinic networks through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, implementing the Northeast Valley Health Corporation, working as a professional staff member for the U.S. Senate's Committee on Labor and Human Resources, and ultimately serving as Vice President of Government Relations at Kaiser Permanente. A dedicated husband and father, Richard adored his more recent role of avid grandfather and its title, "Pop-pop." A memorial service celebrating Richard's life will be held on August 27 at 11 a.m., St. Alban's Episocopal Church, Annandale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capital Area Food Bank or other organizations supporting the nutrition of those in need.
