It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Graves, aged 81 on May 15, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever be treasured by his family and friends.
Dick, affectionately known as such, was widely regarded as one of the kindest individuals you could ever meet. His warm and genuine nature was a rarity in today's world, and he effortlessly forged connections and friendships wherever he went. He had a zest for life and a love for various sports. He enjoyed engaging in activities that kept him active and challenged. Pickleball, football, racquetball, golf and tennis were among his favorite hobbies, and he embraced the camaraderie and competitiveness that came with each sport. Richard's passion for athletics extended beyond the recreational level; he often encouraged others to lead active lifestyles and appreciated the values of teamwork and discipline that sports instilled.
During the Vietnam War era, Richard made the brave decision to enlist in the Air Force, serving his country with honor and dedication. He embarked on his military journey by moving to Texas for basic training, where he acquired the skills and knowledge necessary for his service. Richard was then stationed in Colorado Springs, where he discovered his talent for booking entertainment at local clubs.
Richard's keen eye for talent and his knack for organizing captivating performances quickly became evident. His ability to curate memorable experiences for patrons and ensure the success of each event showcased his passion for the arts and entertainment. Through his work, Richard connected artists with audiences, creating unforgettable moments that brought joy and inspiration to countless individuals.
Richard's military service and his subsequent endeavors in the entertainment industry exemplified his commitment to serving others and bringing people together. His generosity of spirit and his passion for creating meaningful connections were evident in every aspect of his life.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Richard was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a cherished friend. His warm and charismatic personality drew people towards him, and his genuine care and support touched the lives of many. Richard's infectious laughter and uplifting spirit brought joy to those around him, and he will be remembered for his unwavering kindness and compassion.
In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed spending quality moments with loved ones, engaging in friendly competition on the sports field, and continuing to explore the ever-evolving world of entertainment. His enthusiasm for life was contagious, and his ability to bring people together will be forever cherished.
The loss of Richard Graves is immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed. He will forever remain in the hearts and minds of his loved ones. As we grieve this tremendous loss, let us also celebrate his life and the profound impact he made on each of us.
A multi-generational Washington, DC native, he is predeceased by his beloved wife, Andrea "Jenks" Graves, his brother Ed Franklin and sister-in-law Betsy Franklin and his parents, Ralph and Mary (Bollman) Graves. He is survived by sons Mike (Jodie), Matt (Shannon) and Andy; grandchildren Caroline, Colin, Jack, Gabby, Keagan and Rylan; additional granddaughters Emily, Mozelle and Kiera, brother Bill Graves (Maureen), aunt Ruth Graves, along with several nieces and nephews.
A "Celebration of Life" event will be taking place on Saturday, June 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Kenwood Country Club, 5601 River Road in Bethesda, MD. The family kindly requests that donations be made to the
