Passed away in Lanham, MD, August 29, 2018 after a brief stay at Doctors Community Rehab and Patient Care Center. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of William Donald Hibbard and Enid Townsend Hibbard. He and his brother, William Donald Hibbard, Jr. were raised and educated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After Richard's graduation from Ohio University with a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Engineering, he enlisted in 1951 with the United States Air Force as an officer until his honorable discharge as 2nd Lietuenant in 1953 while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. A devoted family man, Richard worked with Western Electric before beginning his 30-year career with NASA headquarters in Washington, DC, retiring in 1990. While he enjoyed his bay window plant collection, he was an avid collector of rare coins and stamps. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Richard was sadly predeceased by his daughter, Susan E. Jones, in 2012. Surviving are his three sons, Richard T. Hibbard II, Robert M. Hibbard (Tracy), and James Hibbard. All of his grandchildren were among Richard's greatest joys, including his grandchildren, Diana Marker, Alexandra Marker, R. Michael Hibbard, Jr., Kaitlyn Hibbard Lahr, Andrew D. Ferrer, and Travis E. Ferrer; and his great-grandchildren, Daniel Palomino and Bethany Raeghan Lahr. The family will fully celebrate Richard's life with a small gathering at a later date to be determined, with his internment at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, Maryland near his daughter. The family is appreciative of all the love, prayers, and support of their extended circles of family and friends.
