Robert Angus Obituary

Rev. Dr. Robert Corbett Angus of Washington, DC, died on Thanksgiving day, November 27, 2025, at the age of 96. He was a clergyman, ordained in June 1954 in the Presbyterian Church USA. He joined the Naval Reserve as a Chaplain and served on the Staff of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and as squadron Chaplain of Destroyer Squadron Six in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean seas. He retired from the Navy in 1977 with the rank of Captain. He also served four pastorates, First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg, PA, Northwood Presbyterian Church, Silver Spring, MD, Bradford Presbyterian Church in Bradford, PA and Westminster Presbyterian Church, Decatur, IL. He was active in the civic life of all the communities he served.
Born in Manhattan, NY to Robert Angus and Marion Corbett Angus, he was an only child. He grew up In Great Neck, Long Island and Centerport, Long Island, and graduated from Huntington High School. He received his BA from the University of Virginia, M. Div from Princeton Theological Seminary, MA from George Washington University and D.Min. from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
He was elected Moderator of the Synod of Lincoln Trails, Indiana and Illinois, and Moderator of the Presbytery of Southeastern Illinois. He also served as adjunct Professor of Religion at Millikin University, Decatur, IL. During the 40 years he lived in the the DC area, he was an active member of National Capitol Presbytery.
Bob and his wife, Jane, have traveled all over the world, particularly in Africa and Asia. When Bob retired, they moved back to Washington, DC, where they've been living at Ingleside Retirement Community for the last 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jane, and his son Robert Cooper Angus of Seattle, WA, and daughter, Margaret Angus Goodwin of Grants Pass, OR.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 11, at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, 1 Chevy Chase Circle, Washington, DC. He will be missed by all who knew him.
