Robert Boakai Obituary
ROBERT J. BOAKAI (Age 69)
On September 16, 2012, Dr. Robert J. Boakai of Hyattsville, MD passed away. Dr. Boakai was a general surgeon, professor, and attending physician at Howard University Hospital and D.C. General Hospital. Husband of Merlyn Boakai; father of Robert B. Boakai, Ballah Boakai and Jomah Boakai. Grandfather of Amber Jones-Boakai; great-grandfather of Zion M. Boakai; brother of Kabeh Jomah and dear friend of Fatu Tarawali and Willa D. Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Saybah Gawu and Kungue Ballah, and his brothers, Jomah Dormu, Joseph Seth and Ericson Jomah. Born in Harbel, Liberia, "Doc" received his degree in Biology from Case Western Reserve University in 1970 and his doctorate from Howard University in 1974. Viewing will be held on Friday, September 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 4300 16th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. and funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 29.
