Charlie Williams
December 1, 2008
Bob was a good and faithful representative of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the union he loved and gave the best years of his life for. I was proud to be working with him as an active worker and in our retirement years and to know him as a friend and fellow member and representative of the IAM and the IAM retirees Rat Pack. His expertise in union newspaper publishing helped put the IAM on the map in union journalism. Bob and his good works will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Charlie Williams

Bob was the epitome of a gentleman, and a true labor leader. His lessons on message development and delivery have moved the causes of working people forward, and thousands of families in North America are better for his tireless work.
I count myself fortunate to have been his friend, to share in his great sense of humor and witness his kindness. He will forever be a part of the fabric of social justice.
Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, and all those who cared for him.

Bob was an inspiration to everyone he had contact with.
We shared many good times together on ILCA business and two incredible weeks in the Soviet Union in 1985...
He was my mentor and very dear friend. I was privileged to work with him as one of the ILCA vice president's.
Heartfelt condolences to his beloved family and many friends.
May he rest in peace.
In loving memory,

As IAM PR Director and ILCA President, Bob’s work provided large numbers of union members with accurate and timely information. Additionally, those of us who worked with him in the labor movement looked to him for leadership and wisdom, which he gave us so generously.
On behalf of all of us, know that we are eternally grateful to him.
I also write about the personal impact Bob had on so many of us. There are only a few “special” people who come along… and Bob is one of them. I know that he had a similar impact on many of my colleagues in the labor movement.
Bob was my friend, my mentor, my inspiration. I owe him a great deal. I never would have aspired to be president of ILCA after him, without his encouragement and continuing counsel. And long after that, he was always there when I needed guidance or moral support.
Much like Bill Clinton, when Bob talked to you, he made you feel like there was no one else in the room. A pretty amazing – and wonderful – ability!
Although Bob is gone, he will always be with each of us whose lives he touched. I will think of him often – and smile broadly -- as I am doing writing this.
Thank you so much for sharing Bob with us!!!

Bob was one of the most positive, kind, and talented people the labor movement ever had. He was a teacher, mentor, and role model for so many of us in the labor press. Deepest condolences to the Kalaski family. He always will be in the hearts of the many union sisters and brothers whose lives he touched.
