To Robin and family,
Your Dad sounds like a great man. I'm sorry that I'm not there to pay my respects. Not many people touch so many lives and leave such a wonderful legacy in his children and grandchildren.

To my Aunt Carol and family,
May God bless you in this time of sorrow. I am deeply saddened by the passing of Uncle Bob. I grew to know him more in these past 20 years than in my childhood. For a time he made frequent trips to Ithaca to attend to business affairs at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. My husband, Chuck, and I live in Ithaca. I would usually get a phone call and hear his deep booming voice inviting us and my brother, Jerry and wife Sharon to have dinner with him while he was in town. Chuck and I always looked forward to the spirited conversations at dinner. Bob had become the patriarch of the Ladd family. His physical presence reminded me of my father, his brother, Carl, who had died so many years before. Uncle Bob wanted to know his neices, nephews, their children and was interested in all of our lives. He was a proud man; a man of integrity who embraced political and religious diversity with respect and caring. He loved his wife, Aunt Carol, and all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was extremely proud of "another grandkid" coming to Cornell. Both my husband, Chuck and I will miss his warmth, his quick wit, his many life stories. His passing brings to a close the last of his generation of Ladds. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and many friends. Shirley Ladd

Here is what one of my father's dear friends had to say about Dad. --

I am praying that the good Lord will bless and honor one of the most wonderful human beings I have ever known. Bob Ladd (after my father), is the finest man, most honorable human-being, and the greatest friend I ever had!

I also know that he has been a wonderful husband and father, an honorable World War II veteran, a devoted American patriot, and a great champion of freedom and democracy among young men in America and throughout the world, as well as a life-long example of the highest principals of honesty and justice in every aspect of American life.

I do not know how this great country could have possibly produced a finer or more noble man, nor how our highest Christian principles could have produced a finer human being? Surely his family and everyone who ever knew Bob Ladd will be everlastingly honored by his blood and friendship.

I am just one of many who will never forget his love and care for his fellowman and for the cause of freedom and justice throughout the world.
