Robert Murphy Obituary

MURPHY ROBERT E. MURPHY (Age 66) Of Arlington, VA, suffered a heart attack and passed suddenly on December 14, 2007. Bob, born in Hartford, CT, was the son of the late William J. and Marjorie Gosselin Murphy. Although blind since birth, Bob distinguished himself as a gifted musician playing the piano at The Prime Rib, several other area establishments and many private functions in the Washington DC area. Bob recently retired from Nordstrom Pentagon City where he entertained their clientele with his wonderful piano playing. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife, Katherine C. Murphy and a sister, Beverly M. Pierce. He was also recently preceeded in death by his dear and his loyal guide dog, Harry. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Katherine Proctor of Sterling, VA, his sister, Mavis Katherine Murphy of Wethersfield, CT, three grandchildren, three nephews and two nieces. Visitation is Thursday, December 20, 2007, 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. at THE ROBERT J. MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22203. Burial immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Recording for the Blind and Dyslexia or the Seeing Eye.

I have such wonderful childhood memories of watching Bobby, riding his bike and amazed that he could do that without having sight.
I am so sorry for your loss, he was a great kid and from what I heard, a great man. Mavis,I also have wonderful memories of you, Beverly and your mom.
