Dr. Robert Lee Nadeau

Dr. Robert Lee Nadeau, a professor emeritus of English at George Mason University and an author focused on climate change, passed away at his residence in Fairfax Station, VA on July 24, 2025, after a long illness. He was 81. His loving wife, Kathleen Wax, and his devoted dog, Dolly, were by his side.
Bob was born in Jacksonville, FL, on January 21, 1944. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of the South (Sewanee) in 1966 and a PhD in English from the University of Florida in 1970. He later completed post-doctoral studies at Yale University.
Bob began his academic career at Mary Washington College in 1970 and joined George Mason University in 1974 where he later became a full professor. He taught at GMU for nearly four decades until his retirement in 2012. Bob's interests went well beyond teaching. He authored ten books, including two co-authored works, on a wide range of topics. In the last two decades, he devoted most of his time and energy to writing about the dangers of atmospheric warming and the resulting effects of climate change. Bob was passionate about the need to have a unified global response to environmental issues.
Bob found his greatest joy in spending time with his beloved family and his many friends, and his presence will be deeply missed by all those who knew him and loved him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Langdon Comee (Gonzalo Villamizar); granddaughters Maddox and Parker Comee; stepson Christopher Wax (Marie); grandsons Lucas and Peter Wax; and cousin Lynda Freeman. He was preceded in death by his parents.
