ROIG ROBERT WILLIAM ROIG Bob Roig died the afternoon of April 6, 2018. Eighty-nine years old, a birthday just celebrated this past February, he was born in 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. His mother, Emma Roig (née Gerheiser), had arrived from Germany a decade before, and his father, Roberto Opisso-Roig, emigrated from Cuba. His beloved sister, Ruth, lives on Long Island, NY. Bob became a pilot in the United States Air Force, ultimately retiring from active and reserve duty as a Lt. Colonel. An accomplished sailor and woodworker, he had a passion for reciting poetry and composing light verse. He was an electrical engineer of superb skills, with four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He had a long, satisfying career with International Research and Technology and MITRE Corporation, working on defense contracting projects, air traffic control systems in both the United States and Europe, and environmental risk assessments. His supreme act of creativity was as a family man - a loving and loyal husband to his wife, Nancy (née Agnew), for more than 63 years; a father of surpassing love and support to his three children, Mike, Julia and Lisa, and to their spouses Clay, Douglas and Joe; a proud grandfather of his three grandchildren, Emma, Will and Bodhi - he invented these roles from whole cloth. Bob also loved his extended family and his network of close friends. They made his life-circle complete. He was and is dearly loved in return, and will be sorely missed. He leaves an example of generosity, focused curiosity, and a determination to live by his own lights, while accepting and supporting those he loved as they created their individual lives. We who knew him are grateful for his companionship, his patience, his guidance, and his love. Bob had a passion for environmental conservation. A unique project of special interest to him and his family is the Hummingbird Monitoring Network (
www.hummonnet.org) and a donation in his honor would be welcome. Bob also supported many humanitarian efforts. Alternatively, a donation in his name to
Doctors Without Borders (
www.doctorswithoutborders.org) would be appreciated. The burial and celebration of Bob's life will be held May 26, 2018.Bob had a passion for environmental conservation. A unique project of special interest to him and his family is the Hummingbird Monitoring Network (
