Ruby Werner Obituary

WERNER RUBY JEWEL WERNER RUBY JEWEL WERNER, born April 8, 1926, died peacefully on July 13, 2008 in the loving care of her family. Mrs. Werner had successful brain surgery in Seattle in mid April 2008, but was diagnosed shortly afterwards with advanced pancreatic cancer; she spent the rest of her days at the home of her oldest daughter. Ruby Werner was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church in Alexandria, VA, a "Lifetime Member" of the Eastern Star, Naomi Chapter 3 of the District of Columbia, and she was one of the first residents of the Montebello Condominiums in Alexandria. She was the fifth child of eight in Grand Tower Illinois to Edith and Hollis Burke and was always proud of her Irish heritage. Her first marraige to John H. Manken of Gorham IL in 1946 ended in divorce. She later married her beloved and devoted husband Jack Werner and they shared 45 years of life together. Mr. Werner preceded her in death after a sudden illness in November 2007. Mrs. Werner is survived by brothers and sisters: Joe Burke, Calumet City IL, Patrick Burke, Murphysboro IL, Sam Burke, Grand Tower, IL, Ruth Wills, Grand Tower IL, and Kay Pritchett, Marion IL. Brothers Clarence and Glen Burke preceded her in death. Mrs. Werner was the loving mother of Marcella Baker of Renton WA, Linda Jobe of Sikeston MO, and John H. Manken Jr. of La Rue, TX. She had special relationships with her daughter and sons-in-law Charlene Manken, Ken Baker, and Bill Jobe. Nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren will miss their "Nana Ruby." A memorial serice will be held at Washington St. UMC, 115 South Washington St. Old Town Alexandria, on Saturday April 4 at 11 a.m.; lunch will be served following the celebration and remembrance of her life by family and friends.
