I met Russ in 1994. I knew it was inevitable that we would be together as we were for 18 years. We came from different musical backgrounds and grew to greatly respect each other. Every day was an adventure with Russ. With him, anything was possible! I was so moved reading everyone´s messages and they literally brought him back to life this evening. Thank you all for keeping his memory alive!

Just seeing this. I ran sound and did second follow-spot (for finale) of "Your Own Thing" during summer and fall of 1968. Loved Rusty's powerful voice, radiant energy and thoroughgoing professionalism (a trait shared with Marcia Rodd, Tom Ligon and Sandy Duncan). His memory IS a blessing.

How lucky we all were to see Russ Thacker in the theater, in his home or just skating past us on the Upper West Side. A glorious talent who could make light even brighter. Floozies, Rusty. Floozies.

Wow! ... how sad to learn of Rusty's passing so many years after the fact.
I was reflecting back on stage performers who clearly relished their time in front of audiences. I am not sure why, but (what's left of) my mind flashed back to B-CC in the early 1960's, and Rusty's name (and big smile) came to me instantly.
Then I discovered this news online, and was thinking back to his love of being in the spotlight at productions in high school. (I am not sure, but I think I first knew him at Leland Jr. High... but definitely remember him at B-CC).
May his many friends and family members know that the world of entertainment indeed lost an enthusiastic member with his passing 10 years ago.

Oh how sad I am. I had no idea Russ had passed. I was remembering the John Kenley productions that came to Dayton, Ohio every summer and I thought about Russ and how he would so unselfishly spend time with those of us who waited outside the stage door just hoping for a glimpse. He would stop and talk with us and sign autographs, always with a smile. How grateful I am that I was one of those who saw him perform. What a great talent and truly nice man.

Rusty was wonderful. We became friends just before he appeared in 'Your Own Thing' I watched rehearsals and went to the show itself a number of times-he was always full of life upbeat and made you feel upbeat just to be around him. Going through that period of life when I was trying to figure out what to do or who I was while attending Columbia-Rusty was a bright light in the darkness and for that I owe him much.

Oh no! So many years and I am just finding this out! I haven't seen him in years but thought of him tonight and wanted to ask him if he realized how instrumental he may have been in my husband and I getting together (to the point of following me into the bathroom asking repeatedly, Are you gonna take him home? I laughed and said,Oh Rusty, please! I did, we married, had two kids, and remained happily married for 33 years until my husband's passing in 2015. If you can hear me, thanks Russ!

I only knew Russ through television. Primarily the episode he did in The FBI and as Andy on the serial, Love is a Many Splendored Thing.
So handsome and what a talent! My condolences John. 18 years together is a long time.

I had the great good fortune of meeting Russ while living on the Upper West Side in the late 70's. He was always kind and funny and I was initially starstruck but he was entirely human and so kind to me. He was very encouraging to a kid from Texas who was struggling to become an actor. I am so very sad to learn of his passing.

Russ and I had a "date" for my 18th Birthday back in Washington D.C. in...oh well, too many years ago now. We had both gone thrhough D.C. theater channels, American Light Opera Company, Washington Theater Club...along with Georgia Engel and a couple of others who made it into the mainstream for however short a time. I would see himin NYC from time to time after I too moved there...and we chatted about old times...and sometimes about what was happening. It was just a wonderful relationship that came about only intermittently but lasted for decades on end. He was one of the most magical talents I have ever seen, let alone known. And he suffered such terrible things in the mix...and with such grace. It is a long time now since he has gone...and I will always miss him and always expect to run into him quite by wonderful chance around the next corner. Rest in peace you beautiful, talented boy!

I saw Russ as Eddie Ryan in Patent Leather Shoes in Cleveland many times over the 6 months they played here. I only met him briefly, but to us at PHSQ, the cast and crew were like an extended family. RIP, Russ, you are missed down here.

I had the pleasure of hearing Russ every night for a long run of BARNUM. He had a beautiful and very lyric tenor voice. Bright and youthful. Like Russ. Great laughs and a wonderful man. I still think of his Mischief............

I had a brief but memorable encounter with Mr. Thacker when, circa 1972, at the age of 12, I was seated next to him on an airplane (either going from NYC to Florida or vice versa, can't recall) and he kindly regaled me with tales of his life in show business for most of the flight, though I'm sure he had better things to do than keep up a conversation with a kid. A good and gentle man, rest in peace.

I met Rusty when we were students at East Carolina University. I use to sneak into the empty theater while Rusty would be on the stage playing the piano and singing. I would sit there and throw love bombs at him. He was such a talented, beautiful spirit. My heart is broken by his passing. I will remember Rusty always.
