RUTH BREINER Obituary

RUTH E. BREINER
Ruth Elaine Breiner of Alexandria, VA, formerly of McLean, VA, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2018.Ruth was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Eleanor and Adam Jardin on January 16, 1929. Ruth was a "student athlete" long before the term was coined. She excelled at every sport she played including basketball, softball, golf, and archery. After high school, Ruth moved to Milwaukee and worked for the Milwaukee Journal for a number of years. In 1953 she married Al Breiner and in 1959 with three young children in tow, the family relocated to Northern Virginia. Ruth was a passionate Chicago Cubs fan from the age of nine and often said she was "sticking around" until the Cubs won the World Series. Her dream came true in 2016 - THANKS, CUBS! She was a champion bowler, an avid poker player and a great storyteller. Her love of animals was never stronger than with her German Shepherds.Ruth is survived by her "Equally Lovely" sister, Doris Miller of Fall River, Wisconsin; her children Ted (Maureen), Tom, and Mary Breiner; her five granddaughters Kate, Carolyn (Tommy), Alex, Margot, and Tara; and her three beloved great-grandchildren Gunnar, Dillon and Louella. Her husband Al and son Chris Breiner predeceased her. She is also survived by dear friends (you know who you are) and special nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Basilica of Saint Mary, 310 South Royal Street, Alexandria, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.
