Hard to believe it's been seven years since Scott died, but his smile lives on in my memory and my heart.

I'm retired from journalism and government service now, but when I think back on the good times, Scott is always part of my memories. He's the only person I've hired twice -- for an energy newsletter and for a federal energy agency. Two of the best decisions I ever made. I miss him.

Still hard to believe that Scott is gone. Many people knew him from high school, college or Wall Street. I knew him as one of the best reporters and editors I've ever worked with. His great work ethic and infectious smile will remain with me forever.

One of my favourite memories of Scott at Gaithersburg High School. An absolute beast of a pitcher.

Scott and I met through journalism, first on staff of an independent newsletter covering energy issues and later writing about energy issues for a federal agency. News organizations and federal agencies are under stress these days, but if I were still active with either operation (I'm retired now) I would very much want Scott to be in the newsroom helping us to get through these tough times. Scott was an excellent writer and was superb at meeting deadlines. I think of him often as one of the outstanding journalists I have known. His absence makes the world a lesser place.

It's been more than a year since Scott died, but his absence in this world continues to be painful -- and always will. I knew Scott as a journalist and had the pleasure of working with him at two places, both in Washington. There was not a finer newsroom colleague -- industrious, bright, witty and always a pleasure to work with. Scott's death was a tough loss for everyone who knew him.

Just heard of Scott's passing as our 30th Class Reunion for Gaithersburg High School is coming up.
Shared many great moments playing soccer, laughing in class and also doing stupid things teenage boys do with Scott and only just shared a story with my son a few days ago about Scott.
He will be truly missed.
Condolences to his family and all his, many, friends.

I am a friend of Scott Jr. and I am very sorry about Scott's death. He was a very nice, caring person and even though I only met him once, I could tell how special he was.

I just found out about Scott's death, and I'm heartbroken. We worked together at Natural Gas Week and at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, two places where Scott learned so much about energy that he could take that knowledge to Wall Street and do so well. He was so incredibly good at working on deadline; few were better. He would run both of his hands through his hair, a gesture that I will always remember, and focus on what needed to be done -- writing or editing. He was a superb journalist, and a colleague I won't ever forget.

My heart goes out to Scott's family. I have many happy memories of running around Whetstone with Scott, Johnny, and my brother Steve. They taught me how to hang with the boys.

Sad for all the Speakers. Scotty was brilliant, funny....a real golden boy. Memories of him as a little boy playing soccer, and then as a handsome young adult have been spinning through my head all day. Deepest sympathy to Michele, John, Johnny and Scott's wife and children.

It is hard to imagine such a fantastic life cut so short. Scott was an old friend from UMD and just all-around contagious personality. Anyone and everyone who had the great luck and pleasure of spending time with Scott Speaker was impacted for life. A witty, snarky and most lovable person...what a void he has left. I am just so sorry I did not reconnect with him sooner. My thoughts are with the entire Speaker family during this most difficult time.
With deepest sympathy,
