COL (Dr) SEYMOUR LEVINE, USA (Ret.)  
COL (Dr) Seymour Levine, USA (Ret.) died on Saturday, November 15, 2014. Beloved husband of the former Vladya Mina Nahman; loving father of Ariane (Steve) Promisel, Brig Gen (Ret.) Muriel McCarthy (Col (Ret.) Michael McCarthy) and Natacha (Larry) Myers; four grandchildren Kameron, Roshan, Eli and Chloe; beloved brother of Sabrina Shapiro. Born in 1933, he graduated from New York University in 1954 and received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Geneva in 1959. Commissioned in the United States Army in 1961, Dr. Levine was assigned to Wurzburg, Germany. In 1967, after a four-year residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii, he was reassigned to Vietnam where he served as a medical advisor to the Vietnamese Army. His subsequent assignments included six hospital command positions at Kagnew Station, Asmara, Ethiopia; Fort Monroe, Virginia; Tehran, Iran; SHAPE, Belgium; Fort Lee, Virginia; and Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Upon retirement in 1991, he was recalled in support of Operation Desert Storm and continued on active duty until 1993. From August 1993 until July 2011, Dr. Levine served in a civilian capacity as the medical member of the Army Physical Evaluation Board, Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Levine was a member of numerous medical professional organizations and was a distinguished member of the US Army Medical Department Regiment. His many awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with five oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star, the Army Superior Civilian Service Award, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, French and Italian National Orders of Merit, and the German Silver Cross of Honor. Services 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, Ft. Myer Memorial Chapel followed by interment at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
